Man Stripes

Good Morning Peeps!

As you may have noticed, moustaches are the rage right now. I've had this moustache dies/stamp set by HeroArts for a while and just got around to using it. [It's not as easy using a 'stache as you might think.] I seem to neglect masculine cards and decided it was time to solve that problem.

The DUDE and sentiment stamps are from Simon Says Stamp card kits. I fussy cut around the DUDE stamp to leave a small white edge to mimic the 'stache. I turned the sentiment into a banner, added 3 black liquid pearl dots for buttons, and called it done.

Not only did I get 4 cards from a leftover pieces of striped paper, but I finally found a way to use my moustache die/stamp set, and have masculine cards to send in to Operation Write Home! Now I call that a successful craft session.

Monster Love

How are you doin peeps? I’m still a semi shut-in because of this crazy dizziness. On the bright side, it’s too cold out for me so I don’t mind being inside. On the down side, I have to have someone drive me wherever I go. Back on the bright side, I have lots of time to make cards. So… it all works out!

The card I’m showing you today is for the Monday challenge over at ScrapZee. We’re to make a Valentine’s card using red, white, and one other color. Soooo… here’s what I came up with.

I just love this monster and these sentiments that’s in the January 2014 Monthly Card Kit from “Simon Says Stamps!”. This one is for my GD, age 12, who loves lime green. I’ve also got the pieces/parts made up for another GD, age 9, and two GS’s, age 4 and 2.

Time for me to go and work on my 2014 Calendar. Yeah, you might say I’m a tad late… but I just have to finish the last half of the year.

Circle Mania

Good Morning Peeps! Well, it’s the start of another loooovely week of temps in the teens and twenties. No, I don’t love these temps but as they say “It could be worse”. The cold temps, for me, is an opportunity to stay indoors and make cards. I so need to replenish some of the cards I keep on hand.

I’m starting out the week by trying Sketch #208 from Operation Write Home’s [OWH] blog, Stars & Stamps. I hardly ever use my circle punches for design elements, so this sketch lets me play around with circles… lots of circles.

Here’s the sketch I used. For lots of good ideas go to OWH’s blog, here, to see what the other participants made.

I love the look of red, white, and black together. The always make a crisp looking card and can be used for both guys and girls. The paper is a 6x6 pad by Teresa Collins called “Stationary Noted”. The stamps are from a clear stamp set by Simon Says Stamps! called “You”. I also used the 1 ½” and 2” scalloped circle punches by Fiskars.

Well, now I’ve got a craft table mess to clean up, so I have to go. I know… clean one mess up and then make another. Ha! Thanks for stopping by, hope you enjoyed your visit!

Monster Love

Good morning peeps! The sun is shining bright, but boy is it cooooollld here in NE Ohio. A good day for what I planned... staying in and making cards!

I get the monthly card kits from Simon Says Stamps, and my January 2014 kit arrived Thursday. I couldn't wait to play with the new stamp set.The Midweek Throwdown over at OWH had a color challenge of red & white or green & white... but no Christmas cards. Soooo... I snagged OWH's sketch 195 and made this cutie. Love this monster and this sentiment!

All the stamps, including the faux stitching lines, are from the new stamp set. Here's what you get in the January kit:

Scrappy Trouble

Goooood morning peeps... or should I say afternoon! My oh my, can I find scrappy trouble or what? I made two  cards and the first one turned out like I planned. It's made for Wednesday's MWT over at OWH's blog, Stars & Stamps, here. The theme was transportation. I used OWH Sketch 174 found here.

I'm very happy with how it turned out! [Love it when a plan comes together... lol] The papers I used on both cards, 6x6 double sided papers, are from Simon Says Stamps May 2013 Card Kit of the Month.

The second... oh my! Now, I'm the first to admit I have trouble taking scraps and turning them into a great card. So I challenged myself to make a second card using only the scraps from the five 6x6 papers from card 1. 

I ended up with some pretty odd sizes of paper left over from card 1. Soooo.... I went "sketch hunting" through OWH sketches. I figured Sketch 147, here, would work... almost. But.... ta daaaa... I made a pretty good card! [Oh phooey, she says throwing modesty to the wind] I think it turned out great!!

Variety is the Spice of LIfe!

Good morning peeps! For this month's BootCamp lesson Paula is teaching us how adding variation to your design can add interest.

I chose a CAS design and used flowers in different styles, color, and size for my variety.

I love how this turned out, but only Paula can decide if it fits the BootCamp lesson. My inspiration comes from a recent His & Hers Online Card Class where Jennifer McGuire had a lesson on Masked Borders. I'm gravitating to CAS style cards right now and this technique really struck my fancy. I will definitely make more of these.

Roses For Mom!

Good morning peeps, and Happy Mother's Day to all my family and friends!

I heard from my son a little while ago and we had a nice chat. He lives 6 hrs away so I won't get to see him today... but that's O.K. because he was just up last week. This afternoon my daughter is taking me out to my favorite restaurant to eat. Yay!

My card is made by using supplies from the May 2013 SSS Card Kit of the Month. You just can't beat this deal, and, it's mailed to your door every month! This is what came in my kit:

I stamped the roses and leaves in Frost White by Color Box, and heat embossed. I used my Ranger Distress Markers as water colors to get the softer color. [I used: Spun Sugar, Worn Lipstick, Peeled Paint, Broken China, and a water brush] I CASEd one of the sample photos that came in the kit because I just love the look. His & Hers Cards

Howdy peeps! The weather has been so beautiful here in NE Ohio, except for today. :(  It's been rainy, cold, and damp. BUT... this is Ohio so I'll just hang around a day and the weather will change.

I haven't been around much lately. Not because I don't want to, but I just haven't had the energy. I battle on and off with depression and it has been acting up. A lot of it is situational, meaning certain things going on will make it worse. Right now it's issues with my mom, who is 90, and in the nursing home. She's had slight dementia for awhile but right now it's starting to get a little worse. Mom know exactly what she want to say but can't say the words. She knows what is going on with her and gets, understandably, upset. So sad!

Hoping to get on a brighter note: My doctor increased my med dosage and I'm starting to have some desire and energy again. I'd like to share with you 8 cards I just made. I made them for this week's Midweek Throwdown [MWT] on OWH's blog Stars & Stamps. The challenge is to make two cards, one for Him & and one for Her, using the same layout. You can find this challenge here.

The layout is one Kristina Werner used in the Online Card Class I took recently. Ironically enough the class was titles "His & Hers". The classes are fantastic and a great source for learning and inspiration. I used to following 6x6 paper pads: Set 1, Indie Chic Nutmeg by My Minds Eye; Set 2, Renew collection by Authentique; Set 3, Hope collection by Authentique; Set 4, Hers, Carefree collection  and His,Original collection, both by Authentique.

The background paper is cut at 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" and I used two border punches for the sides. Hers is by Fiskars and His is by EK Success. The white strip is 2" x 4 1/4" with rounded corners on one end. For my ribbon I used a 1 1/2" circle punch and a 2" scalloped circle punch, both by Fiskars. The banners on the ribbon are cut at 3/4" with one end cut to make the V. The sentiment is from Very Special clear stamp set in the Jan 2013 SSS card kit of the month.
